![]() Morwenstow - St. Morwenna & St. John the Baptist - Grade I Listed - Norman. Morwenstow lies in a secluded combe on the coast approximately half way between Bude and Hartland. Follow the A39 road from Kilkhampton northwards for approximately three miles, until you reach Crimp where you will find the Morwenstow signpost on the left hand side. Follow the signposts for a further three miles until you reach the hamlet of Crosstown with its Bush Inn, some tea gardens and a few cottages; at the far end of the green stands the vicarage and Church. Here it was that Robert Stephen Hawker, theologian, eccentric, poet and parish priest par excellence lived, preached and worked from 1834 to 1875. Few churches can surpass Morwenstow in romantic or architectural interest.
